Homework

FOR ALL GRADES

  • Teachers will have a section for homework on their web page.
  • Teachers will post the school wide homework policies on their web page.
  • Teachers will update their web page with the current week’s homework no later than 3:30 pm every Tuesday. If there is no homework for the upcoming week, a message will be posted stating that there is no homework.
  • Parents are encouraged to sign up for web page updates so that they will know what homework is due.

 

TK-3RD

  1. Teacher assigns a “Traveling Tuesday” homework assignment each week. It will align with the units being taught in the classroom during that week.
  2. Traveling Tuesday expectations  align with grade and age level expectations and rigor. Work assigned should take no more than 15 minutes, 5 nights each week to complete.
  3. In addition to the time spent on Traveling Tuesday homework, students will be assigned nightly reading.
  4. Traveling Tuesdays will include as many of the content areas (Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies and Art.) as possible.
  5. Teachers will train the students how to evaluate Traveling Tuesday homework, using a 4 point rubric. Students will evaluate homework based on task expectations, not achievement toward standards.
  6. Teachers will inform parents when a student has missed 2 consecutive Traveling Tuesday assignments and/or if 25% of assignments have not been completed.
  7. Special homework will include projects such as building a box car for the Polar Express activity, Leprechaun Traps, etc. Chef Specials are not to be assigned every week.

4TH-8TH

  1. Teacher assigns a “Traveling Tuesday” homework assignment each week. It will align with the units being taught in the classroom during that week.
  2. The first TravelIng Tuesday Homework is assigned on a Tuesday, near the end of the first month of school and returned one week later.
  3. Teacher assigns a Traveling Tuesday each week on Tuesday and it is due the next Tuesday.
  4. Traveling Tuesday, prior to National History Day (NHD), is designed to support the NHD project. Traveling Tuesday after NHD and up to Science Showcase is designed to support the Science Showcase. Traveling Tuesday after Science Showcase and up to state testing is designed to support mastering performance task expectations.
  5. For the two Showcase projects (as described above), Traveling Tuesday will support “pacing” for the completion of the projects.
  6. The Performance tasks will be online or in a print format, to be completed at home but reviewed as a class on the following Tuesday.
  7. Traveling Tuesday expectations are to align with grade and age level expectations and rigor.  Work assigned should take no more than 45 minutes, 5 nights a week to complete.
  8. Traveling Tuesday assignments are to include as many of the content areas as possible: Reading, Writing, History/Science (depending on focus), Math and Art.
  9. Teachers will train the students on how to evaluate Traveling Tuesday homework, using a 4 point rubric and how to provide effective, written, task-oriented feedback.
  10. GRADING - Homework that supports the NHD and Science projects will be scored by the teacher and entered into the gradebook and factored in to the report card grades.  The students will be informed in advance of the assignment, and where it will be included in the gradebook.
  11. Teachers are required to inform parents in writing when a student has missed 2 consecutive Traveling Tuesday assignments and/or if 25% of assignments have not been completed.
