First Grade With Ms. Tabor

I can't imagine a better career than teaching!  I have loved this work for over 30 years and am thrilled to start my first full year working in the Sycamore community.  I grew up in the Montana Rockies and found my way to the tropics of Hawai'i, where I lived for over 30 years.  I made the "jump across the ocean" to be closer to my family and am enjoying all that Southern California has to offer!
My experiences as a teacher have been wonderfully diverse ranging from teaching sixth, third, and fourth grades, a talented and gifted class of second and third graders, second grade and most recently first grade.  I have been a home-hospital teacher for a former student with cancer, co-created a periodical for parents and teacher of children kinder through 6th, created and operated an after school enrichment program and piloted a one-to-one technology program for my first grade class.  Whew!  I've loved every minute of it!
After graduating from University of Montana, Western with a B.S. in Elementary Education, my education has continued with career relevant classes from University of Hawai'i , Manoa, University of Hawai'i, West Oahu and Concordia University, Irvine, plus many educational workshops, seminars and webinars.  I am certified in Spaulding and Orton-Gillingham reading programs.
My daughter, Whitney, graduated from Cal State Fullerton in business and has found success managing a resort spa in Southern California.  Children grow up way to fast!  It seems she was just in first grade a very few years ago.  My advice to every parent is to find time to enjoy and talk with your child every day.  These years will become the treasured memories of parenthood.
Some favorite hobbies of mine are hiking, dance and photography.  I am personally working to live a less plastic dependent lifestyle.  We will be learning about helping our earth in first grade.  You can look forward to many fun Reduce, Reuse and Recycle activities.
I'm always available for conversation about your first grader, so please feel free to contact me whenever you have a question or concern.  I look forward to the opportunity to work with you and your child.
Mahalo nui for all you do!
