About Me:
My name is Samantha Etchandy and I am so excited to be here for another year at Sycamore Academy. This will be my eleventh year of teaching and boy does the time fly when you're having fun! I am a native New Yorker born and raised in Queens, NY. I lived there until moving to California in June of 2010. I attended Hunter College in New York City and received my BA in English Language Arts and my MS in Elementary Education, Grades 1-6. I've had the pleasure of working both private and public schools in California and New York and have dual certification in both states. I was recently married in October 2013. My husband Kevin & I are parents to two chihuahuas named Moe & Mack. Come December, we'll be parents to our first little one! :)

I am semi-fluent in French and backpacked across Europe the summer of 2010, immediately after finishing my initial teaching credential program. I was able to see 16 different countries in 6 weeks. Traveling is one of my favorite things to do! These are a few of my favorite things:

Color(s)- Teal & Aqua
Birthday- September 17th
Food(s)- Italian, Mexican & anything PUMPKIN!
Snack(s)- Cheez-Its, Chex-Mix & did I mention anything pumpkin?
Drink(s)- LOVE Dunkin Donuts or a Vanilla Soy Latte from Starbucks
Sport(s)- Baseball (Go Mets!) & Football (NY Giants)
Animal- My chihuahua Moe & pigs!
Book(s)- "I Know this Much is True" by Wally Lamb-I LOVE to read!
Hobby- Yoga, singing, traveling, thrifting, reading or ANYTHING crafty!
Quote- "Don't learn to do, but learn in doing."

I am so excited to meet my wonderful class and I'm looking forward to our learning adventure together! It is paramount to my teaching to provide my students with a safe environment in which they can learn to respect themselves and others, all while simultaneously obtaining a genuine love for learning.

Thank you for entrusting them in my care!

  • Stay organized
  • Take risks

  • Be kind

Recommendations for parents to help their children be successful in second grade:
  • Check your child's grades weekly on Power School and have a discussion with him/her about grades
