About Me:
My name is Gina Beavers. I am beyond excited to be starting my third year teaching at Sycamore Academy! I taught Read 180/ELD for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, 5th grade, 2/3, and last year 3rd grade!
I grew up in La Quinta, Ca. After graduating high school, I moved to North County, San Diego. I attended California State University San Marcos where I graduated with a BA in Liberal Studies and then my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. 
I currently live in beautiful Carmel Mountain, San Diego with my fiance, Tony and my two Pitbulls, Violet & Gemma.

A 2nd grade holiday packet went home with your student today! It is not part of their homework, it is just a review of concepts that we have been working on in class recently. Students were informed that if they chose to “sharpen the saw” by competing the packet, they will receive a surprise when we return to school on January 9th. Students will also receive a “punch” on their card for working toward their Habit SCORE goal!!!
 
Packets must be:
  • Brought back completed on Wednesday, January 9th
  • Parent must initial to show they reviewed the work with their child
  • These next few weeks they will test their hypothesis by collecting data! The students will list their MATERIALS, VARIABLES, and PROCEDURE on the provided sheet and turn it in on TUESDAY, JANUARY 15th.
  • *Please note: Final project is not due until February. 
  • Addition & Subtraction with REGROUPING math sheet (This is what they need to master to meet their SCORE goal.)
  • Please also continue to work on their reading log, math log, and their SCORE goals!
 
December 19th! 
It's a combination spirit day-- ugly sweater day and pajama day! Wear either your favorite pajamas or your best ugly sweater, or both!

  • Science Project: We are starting off our Science Projects school wide this week. 2nd Graders are expected to complete a project at home and create a board to bring in and preset to the class. We have broken down the project into weekly homework assignments to make this process easy and stress free! Students will be receiving a Science grade for each week for their assigned Science Project step so please help your child remember to turn in the paper given to them on the day it is due, using their own writing, to receive full credit!
 
  • This week, they will create their own Science Fair HYPOTHESIS for the question they chose after doing some research! They will write their hypothesis using what they learned from their research where it says, "Now it's your turn!:" and turn it in next Tuesday to be approved.
 
  • Math and Reading Log is also due. 
 
  • Please also continue to work on  practicing reading, math, and their SCORE goals!
 
DUE: December 18th!

  • They will also have fun completing their "Holiday Traditions" sheet for homework this week! Please make sure they complete quality work by coloring it and adding lots of detail to share with the class!

This year for WinterFest on December 7th, we are auctioning off a basket to earn money. The bigger the basket the more we will earn! Our classrooms theme is "Baking". We are looking for donations of any baking type supplies. We will be collecting them until December 6th. Use the link below to sign up. Hi Parents!!!
 
We need help running our class Tic-Tac-Toe Toss Booth! There are 1 hour time slots to sign up for and we need two volunteers for each shift. You will need to collect tickets, give students the balls to toss, and pass out prizes. Parent support is very appreciated!!!

2nd Graders started working on addition with regrouping right before Thanksgiving Break and will continue working on this skill and subtraction with regrouping until Christmas Break. We are working hard in the classroom! Many students have this math skill as one of their SCORE Goals and would benefit from added practice at home now and over Christmas Break reinforce their understanding and master their goal! Thanks for all of your support at home!
  • Week 4: Original Art. We introduced Grant Wood this month as our artist focus. Using the artist, Wood, create an original art piece that reflects the style of the artist. Use any medium you would like, please ensure that it reflects great quality and effort.  Please remember that the Math log and Reading log must both be completed for 5 of the 7 days listed. Names of books & skills practices for Math must be included on the log. Evidence must be provided and parents must sign for their child's work completion. Your child is to be the one writing this information down (full sentences, please!) as this is their C.A.R. responsibility.
 
  • Science Project: We are starting off our Science Projects school wide this week. 2nd Graders are expected to complete a project at home and create a board to bring in and preset to the class. Students will be receiving a Science grade for each week for their assigned Science Project step so please help your child remember to turn in the paper given to them on the day it is due, using their own writing, to receive full credit! This week, they will read about the difference between Life, Physical, and Earth Science and select a Topic for their Science Project to be approved my their teacher. Once their topic is approved, please make sure all other assigned steps are completed on the same topic as this will be their Science Project. The sheet for this went home on Tuesday 11/27.
